This is the definitive British web site about old telephones. If there is anything you need to know, visit his site first.

Old Time Telephones by Ralph O. Meyer. Tab Books. 290 pages. ISBN 0-07-041818-7.
A paperback book describing the early days of telephones through to almost the present day. It concentrates on the technical aspects of telephone design, with numerous circuit diagrams. Aimed at the American market there is virtually no reference to foreign telephones. However telephone design in those days was heavily influenced by American practice, so much is relevant.

Old Telephones by Andrew Emmerson. Shire Books 32 pages ISBN 0-85263-781-0.
A slim paperback concentrating mainly on British telephones from the 1870's to the 1970's. Many illustrations, make it an ideal book for those starting a collection or those just seeking more information.

Vintage Telephones of the World by Povey and Earl. 202 pages ISBN 0-86341-140-1.
The authors have ranged far and wide in their quest for the unusual. Apart from the usual telephones covered in most other books, they have sections on specialised uses for telephones. So we see call telephones, police telephones, and the short lived Theatrophone.
Many Illustrations.

The Phone By Paul Clark. Aurum Press. A5 32 pages. ISBN 1-85410-529-9
This book covers the external design of telephones from the beginning to almost the present day. It is presented from a European viewpoint, although some American telephones are included. Many fine illustrations.

Telephones Antique to Modern  By Kate E. Dooner. Schiffer Publishing. 176 pages ISBN 0-88740-386-7
Although sub-titled Ancient to Modern, this book scarcely refers to modern telephones. It does however provide an excellent source of information about telephones from their inception to the 1950's. The accent is heavily towards American telephones. Profusely illustrated in colour,  it is essential reading.

If you wish to place an order, or have an enquiry, please read all below.

Please call me (Gavin Payne) by telephone if you wish to place an order for a telephone, spare parts, or have an enquiry.  I can usually be reached 9.00am to 5.45pm any day, including weekends. Calls in the evening are not appreciated and could make me very grumpy. The number is 01245 400601.

I am in the shop most Saturday and Sunday mornings between 10.00 and 12.00. These are the only times I am in the shop for the sale of spare parts, conversions and repairs.  Conversions and repairs can often be carried out while you wait.

If you have a telephone that you want to know more about, or have it repaired or converted, please have it right next to you when you call. Please also have a selection of small flat bladed screwdrivers to hand.
I do not give advice for DIY repairs or conversions or valuations of any kind over the telephone or by email. Please bring the telephone to my shop for assessment, but always call me first before bringing it in.
